Stop, sit down, and feast!

The Crossroads family is on a grand experiment. We're seeing what life is like when we daily sit at the feet of Jesus and listen to his voice...and feast on his Word. We've decided that living on one spiritual meal a week is flat-out stupid. We're tired of neglecting our souls. So, we launched Soul Food, which is more than a message series. It's going to become a way of life for us. Digging into the Word and feeding ourselves each day is going to become as common as taking a shower or eating breakfast. But I believe the results will be anything but common. This "experiment" will change us.

How goes it? We're one week into the Daily Readings. If you miss a day don't give up or beat yourself up. Get at it the next day. And the next. Remember, no one's going to do this for you. And you'll never "have time" to do it. You must make the time. We are each responsible to feed ourselves. Nothing is more important. Nothing has a great pay-off.

So...Stop, sit down, and feast!

Maybe this latest Christianity Today article can clear up why seeker churches are now attempting to get their people to be self-feeders (which in my opinion is still equally the job of the church and its leaders).

just curious, i was always under the impression that the reason that the isrealites were wandering in the desert for forty years was because they were a bunch of whining, sniveling, disobediant people. none of the original people who left egypt with moses were allowed into the promised land, including moses, because of their constant complaining and disregard for all the lord had done for them. so is it biblicaly accurate to say God was "preparinig" them when they never entered the promised land? would it not be more accurate to say he was punishing them for their disobediance and sinful behavior?????

a Man whom i deeply respect once told me that the job of the church is to feed it's members and ensure their spiritual development. It was his opinion and mine that the primary responsibility of the church is to"FEED THE SHEEP AND DO NOT ENTERTAIN THE GOATS" However i am in complete argeement with you that we need to have daily personel time with the lord. it is through that time that we will grow in confidence and maturity in our walk. this does not however alieviate the church from giving the congregation some weekly "meat" to chew on. i think that the when the church is continualy fed "milk" from the pulpit it only serves to weaken the body and hemorage the strong believers who are recieving nothing each week. These mature christians are the backbone of the church.without them the church will become spineless and unable to fend off the attacks from satan that will come. Without the mature christians in the body who will the immature christians turn to when the trouble comes??????

I think it is also important to understand what the "Church" is. The church is more of a building or a Sunday Service. The Church is a community of like minded believers in the fellowship of life. The Crossroads leadership is pushing Meal Groups, once called life groups, to expand the Churches reach into every day life. Right now the emphasis of Meal Groups is to meet weekly and become close together while studying the Word. But I would hope that it grows beyond that where we share more of our life with our groups and our groups grow together. That is the Church that I think Paul is talking about and our leadership is trying to push us to that.

And so when it comes to the Sunday Congregation the leaders need to be careful what is being taught to everyone. In a classroom that has a range of students from Pre-K to PHD you can't be teaching Nuclear Physics because the lower level students will become disenchanted, lost, confused, and most often become disruptive. It is better to have the advanced students participate in the teaching (which is a learning experience itself) and then go off to do independent group study with those of similar aptitude.

That’s just how I see it. Hope you enjoy.
