Worship transitions

A few people are a little nervous about our worship transition...our post-Mike way of doing worship. Are we going to radically alter our style? Are we going to turn off the lights and turn up the volume and go to a Sanctuary-like style? Which way are things heading?

Things will change (they would've whether Mike stayed or not). The only constant around here is change. Will we radically alter our style? No. Will weekends become like Sanctuary? No. Which way are things heading? We have no idea...we've decided to make things up one weekend at a time. We'll see where God's Spirit leads us. By the way, that's what we've been trying to do around here for a long time. Seek God. Let Him lead.

I would ask the Crossroads family to do 3 things:
1. Pray for the transition time.
2. Trust the staff and leaders. In July I will have served at Crossroads for 14 years. You know my heart and leadership by now. Our Elder Team is solid and extremely committed. Our staff is amazing. We all have this church's best interest in mind.
3. Give our interim worship leaders some slack. Ryan Lunceford will serve as Interim Worship Pastor. Gwen Budish will assist him. Deborah Yost will coordinate all the details. Jordan Lindstedt will be our worship intern.

The transition begins this weekend as well as a new series called "Identity Theft". See you then.

Phil

How about if we agree that a worship service is meant more for our edification then our enjoyment? Then we can embrace the opportunity to experience different 'things' in our worship time as opposed to simply stating what we enjoy most and complaining about the other things.

We should also agree that a worship service is meant to be a time to worship God - focus on God and not ourselves.

I hope that this transition period is one of optimistic unification - and not one of disputes and disgruntlement. Which way we go is 100% up to each of us in the pews!

I can't wait to hear what Ryan, Gwen, Deborah and Jordan have in store!!

i've never been able to find chapter & verse regarding how a 'worship service' is supposed to be conducted. therefore, it seems that there should limitless flexability with what our crack team does from week to week. can't go wrong seeking to be led by the Spirit.
how's about we slay some religious demons while we're at it!

There actually is. In Judith 4:7-12
it clearly states:

"...and therefore bring your songs in praise, but no more then three at a time, and without the use of electronic instruments or clangy drums and with a total time not to exceed 12 minutes. And return to song after you have taken the offering at the conclusion of your service, but limit this to one song so as not to make the congregants too impatient and make sure to conclude this final song within the preset one hour time limit.

Further, let there be no bickering regarding the selection of music. This can be done by finding the most critical and opinionated member of the Church and having them choose all the music. This fulfills the 'squeeky wheel' prophesy brought forth by the great prophet Murphy."

So clearly there are hard and fast guidelines Passion. Perhaps you need to read your Bible more!
